What they really taught us in school.

They say school taught us Humanities and Algebra, but we received much more.

When our friend spread rumors about us, it completely broke our heart. Only to learn how to heal. We picked the pieces of our heart up and put them back together. Like a broken bone, our heart became stronger.

How I spent most of college, studying.

How I spent most of college, studying.

When we stayed up all night working on the project and still received a ‘B’, we felt like a failure. Only to learn how to keep trying. We saw the areas we could have done something different.

When the relationship ended, we felt worthless. Only to find that our worth was not in that person. We learned our heart was not theirs to keep, and we became thankful for another chance.

When we landed third on the podium, we were disappointed. Only to be humbled. We saw we didn’t have to be first to find achievement.

That's me standing on number 3.

That’s me standing on number 3.

When we showed up late to class, we were embarrassed. Only to understand the importance of time. When we are late, we always miss something valuable.

When we were not asked to the dance, we felt ugly. Only to see the fun we could have by ourself. We were beautiful and didn’t need a date to help us feel that.

When everyone was against us, we felt alone. Only to see the lies. We saw that we were not alone but blinded. We fought the lies we once believed and found support.

Finally.

Finally.

When our friend received the scholarship we hoped for, we were jealous. Only to learn how to find joy for others. The scholarship was not worth more than the friendship.

When we were cut from the team, we were devastated. Only to become a warrior. We sparked a fire within and regained love for the sport. We were unstoppable.

Through all the pain, we can be thankful. Thankful for the ability to look back and see how much we have grown. Yes, maybe now we can add and subtract, but school also showed us who we are. Each time life shattered us to pieces, we were shown the pieces inside that we never knew were there.

Wow! I wonder how you lay your honest and real life experiences so bare and so beautifully with a tint of subtlety. There is always a profound lesson underneath every failure, disappointment, loss, dejection, and all the hurts….. and you have tactfully conveyed these valuable lessons. I love the way you have put it. Now it seems easy to handle life with a positive attitude. Love You.

Very beautiful 🙂 It’s so funny to look back on things now and realize how small they really were. This is very encouraging for current college goers. ❤
